We live in a time where there are plenty of options for Cannabis consumption + how we can consume to address specific needs. For example, for immediate relief + effects, inhalation is the quickest way to feel the effects of your plant meds. So when you want that quick fix, get your flower, vape, +/or concentrates ready! When you’re seeking a gradual + really prolonged effect, whether it’s to help you stay asleep or to have a high that builds over hours when you’re having a chill day or whatever the case is, edibles are the way to go! I sometimes smoke a joint for immediate relief, then have an edible knowing that it’ll take time to digest, but will keep me elevated + provide the result I need depending on the dose I take.
Here’s an easy recipe for DELICIOUS, CHEWY, ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookies that you can customize by adding whatever additional ingredients you’d like. For example, sometimes I like to add walnuts to the chocolate chip cookie dough for a yummy sweet, nutty treat. For this batch of cookies, I added Oreo cookie bits to half of the dough plus graham crackers + marshmallows to the other half for a s’mores option. You can easily make this a vegan-friendly recipe by making those simple ingredient swaps mentioned below, too.

But, before you begin, it’s SUPER helpful to know the dosage of your edibles so that you can consume your desired dose or the dose that you know is effective for you. There are lots of great infusers on the market that do all the work of activating your bud and infusing your oil or butter, but if you’re not using a machine, make sure you decarb your Cannabis and slow simmer to infuse before cooking with it. I used to do this the old-school way, heating my bud in the oven, super-slow cooking in a pot of butter or oil on the stove, then storing. If you’re going that route, click here for a step by step on activating and infusing from High Times, then check out this easy dosage calculator from Wake + Bake to figure out the potency of your infusion!
Using my coconut oil infusion, this entire batch of cookies (two dozen) contains 264mg of THC which breaks down to 11mg of THC per cookie. I like lower doses like this for me personally because I can eat one if I want a small dose and will still be fully functional (I actually wrote this piece after smoking a joint and eating an 11mg cookie so this is a high-functioning dose for me) or I can eat 3 cookies guilt- and worry-free knowing that 33mg is a tolerable amount for me that will DEFINITELY get me high but not in the tripping out of my mind, uncomfortable way. When in doubt, START SMALL. If you don’t know the potency of your edible, start with a quarter of it, wait an hour, and consume more if needed. It takes a little math and patience to find what your sweet spots are when it comes to dosing so enjoy the experiment and get cooking!
