Golden milk, aka turmeric milk, is a drink originated in India which may have health benefits and can also assist as a natural sleep aid.
This bright, golden, mustardy yellow beverage is traditionally made by warming up cow’s milk or any plant based milk and then simmering it with turmeric and other spices such as cinnamon, ginger and even black pepper. Key ingredients in this drink are loaded with strong antioxidant properties which can help protect cells from damage, fight infections and contribute to overall wellness. In addition these ingredients also have anti inflammatory properties which may help reduce inflammation and joint pain. Curcumin which is the active component in turmeric has been used for centuries due to its holistic health benefits. Incorporating cannabis into this recipe was a breeze and it made for some awesome and successful results. The term “sleep like a baby” will become a household phrase if you manage to make this part of your normal nightly routine.
As far as cannabis goes and assisting with sleep, I think it may be safest, smartest and in your best interest when choosing a strain to go for a heavy indica which can give euphoric body high effects and can serve as a natural sedative to work in conjunction with the golden milk. Some good examples of night time strains include Granddaddy Purp, Super Skunk, Grape Ape, and one of my personal favorites, the amazing natural mystic that is Master Kush.
For our THC-mindful folks, please feel free to swap out the THC rich strains for a beautiful high CBD strain such as Cannatonic or Remedy. Also, there’s nothing wrong with creating a unique blend of the two or a 1:1 ratio of THC:CBD. Once you choose your strain, I recommend using your preferred method of infusing an organic extra virgin unrefined coconut oil to keep in an airtight mason jar in your fridge. This will be the easiest, fastest and among the most effective ways to properly dose your golden milk. The strength of your coconut oil may vary depending on your strain and also extracting techniques used. In my golden milk recipe, for a single cup I usually will use around 1⁄2 teaspoon which will contribute around 15mg of THC/CBD to your recipe. BEDTIME GOLDEN MILK
Total prep + cook time: 5 minutes Yields: 1 cup (8 oz) serving
●1 cup (8 oz) unsweetened almond milk/coconut milk (or milk of preference)
● 1-2 teaspoons raw organic honey
● 1 teaspoon organic almond butter
● 1⁄2 teaspoon cannabis infused coconut oil
● 1⁄4-1⁄2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
● 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
● 1⁄4 teaspoon ground turmeric
● 1⁄8 teaspoon ground ginger
● Pinch of black pepper (optional)
Procedure: Add all ingredients in small saucepan; stir and simmer for 5 mins. SERVE.
